Corps members convey election materials to Enugu polling unit on motorbike (PHOTOS)
Election kicked off in Enugu State early Saturday morning.
This is as some residents have already cast their votes.
A delighted resident of Uwani, who cast her ballot at Uwani Ward 4, in Enugu South told DAILY POST, “I’m so happy, I have voted, the process is simple.”
Meanwhile, our correspondent spotted a team of presiding officers, made up of corps members, heading to Opi, in Nsukka Local Government Area, on motorbike.
The corps members said they could not get a vehicle that would convey them to the unit.
9.34am: Jabi primary school voters in queue
There is a large early turn out of voters at the Jabi primary school. As at 9.34am, electorate are already queued up to cast their votes.
Atiku set to vote
The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is yet to cast his vote at his polling unit of Ajiya in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa almost one hour after the commencement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections nationwide.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that voting has commenced in earnest at the unit and other centres across the metropolis.
Some of his aides who arrived at the unit, however, said the PDP flag-bearer “`should be coming any moment from now”.
President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC candidate, voted four minutes after the commencement of polling in Daura, Katsina State.
Buhari, Aisha vote in Daura
President Muhammadu Buhari has insisted that he will win Saturday’s presidential election and then congratulate himself for the electoral victory.
The president said this after casting his vote at 8:05 a.m. in PU003, Sarkin Yara ward, Daura.
The president was reacting to questions on whether he would congratulate the winner of the election if he failed to emerge victorious at the end of the exercise.
Buhari, who stressed that he would surely win the election, expressed satisfaction so far over the conduct of the elections, saying “so far so good, everything is going smoothly’’.
He commended the electorate for their orderly conduct so far at the polls.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Buhari and his wife, Aisha, were the first to cast their votes at their polling unit in Daura.
They arrived at the PU003 at Sarkin Yara ward at exactly 8 a.m., and they were accredited immediately without hitches.
Aisha was the first to vote after which her husband voted.
When he came out of the cubicle, Buhari was clearly heard jokingly telling his wife that, “I had to peep because you are from Adamawa”.
President Buhari’s main challenger, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar is an indigene of Adamawa.
Buhari, Wife cast votes in Daura
President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife, Aisha, voted in Daura, Katsina State in the Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
The wife, Aisha, voted before the president at 8.06 a.m., while the president voted at 8.10 a.m.
at the Kofar Baru, Sarkin Yara “A” ward in Daura.
After voting, the president expressed satisfaction with the state of affairs and said he was optimistic of winning.
